Road Trip Diaries - Day5

We had to leave for a village 15kms away from Dumbriguda at 6:30 in the morning to see  how the “Grain Bank ” system works. Though we set an alarm for five, we all ended getting  up much before that. We had a disturbed sleep, probably because of the “king-size” bed and  the “mosquito-treat”. We were too scared to go out, it was pitch dark outside. Yes, this so-  called town doesn’t even have a single street light, so in the mean while we did some editing  and deleting-junk work.

It was an amazing experience to draw water from the well. We almost fought to decide who  will be the first one to take turn (of course I had to win :P ). We were ready in a couple of  minutes (as we had nothing else to do..refer to the previous posts :P). Then we had a breath  taking journey which lasted for an hour to the village. The plains, hills, the early morning fog  covering them coupled with slight drizzle and cold breeze totally made our day. We then had  to climb some distance up the hill to reach the village. I must say every village out here has a bunch of “really” loyal dogs (they were really bent on driving us back :P). The person from TERDS who came along with us arranged for a meeting with a bunch of young people. They explained to us how their “Grain Bank” system works analogous to our “Money Bank” system. It was an amazing concept used to keep the village self-sufficient and to make sure that everyone has enough grain to survive. They live in a very closely-knit society which is quite appreciable. There is no question of abandonment in their society.

But what took me aback was, when asked if they have “any problems” regarding  “anything”….they said no. Yes, you heard it right. They said no. May be as an outsider from a  ‘supposedly’ civilized and advanced society, I see something wrong in their lives. But they  don’t. They say it is all relative, how that rings true again.

We then went back to Dumbriguda and took a bus to paderu which is 30kms away (though  something else was on our minds all the time, hoping not to get center shocked again :P). God only knows whats next :)
