Colors of Life :)

Day 4 of Roadtrip about to rockkk !!!

The stop’s a shandy some 5 kms away from araku. Here’s the first chap who had the time to talk to us about the problems that tribal sellers faced. Yeahh! It was that busy !

Can you guess what this is? I’m sure you can’t and no, it’s not leather. It’s mango jelly that was being sold in large quantities in the market. One roll of the above takes about 50 mangoes to be made.

Immersed in the ‘grass routes’ experience. It takes no more than ten minutes to make one of the baskets!

The tribal sellers come all the way from Orissa (30 kms), every Friday to sell their produce in the ‘shandy’ – the local name for santha or vegetable market.

Never thought that raw tobacco looks like this! He then rolled a ‘chutta’ or ‘sutta’ right then, while we were eagerly waiting on the other side for…

‘Bluffmaster”

You might have eaten fish, but not like this I am sure. Besides the green chillies the brown mounds are of fish. These fish are first dried in sun and then roasted in fire, after which they sprinkled with salt and chilli powder and dried in sun again. I don’t know about you but the tribals love it.

Burning Hot!!

The shandy had many more colors than you can see above

This bio-diesel is made from a tree called kanugu by the tribals…btw its quite expensive

Getting into the local “spirit”! Krushi’s energy drink, “Kallu” – the local alcohol.

The entire family came all the way from Orissa to sell their ‘awesome’ mangoes. Yeah! We had firsthand experience \m/.

The tribals love the dried fish.

Women Power! Surprisingly the shandy was dominated by women sellers. Later we found out that the tribal society is women-dominant.

Dhoom-Pichuk-Dhoom! Time for entertainment! The shandy has a musical evening to finish the hectic day.

The man behind all the awesome photography….finally gets his chance to pose.
Cheers,
