Reworking the mini-campaign-Part Two “Pros”
We now consider those points which we think gave a positive momentum to the campaign.
1. Did not waste time in unnecessarily prolonging the process, but focused on what we wanted to get at by calling up the relevant people, time was saved a lot that ways. Next thought that we had was that, even though we were able to contact the contractor, Mr. Silvera for garbage collection, we weren’t sure if the people themselves understood the problem they faced and were aware about the responsibilities of the contractor. We realized the importance of educating the kids about this issue, hence we thought we should try to leave an impression on their malleable minds.
2. When we went to interact with the kids of the schools informally before staging the play, we were able to get the critical information that their schools were going to close soon, and we decided to visit their teacher’s home that day itself in order to get permission for the play and figure out if it would be feasible, which proved to be a right decision.
3. We were also able to understand their lingo, and tried our best to use the Goan tinge in our play. Considering their active response in the end, I guess they did understand what we were trying to say.
4. Though the delay at the school was not anticipated, it helped us in many ways like the one above and also providing us with enough time to evaluate the area for a proper camera setup and coverage. Though we finalized on the temple, a little more light and ventilation would have made the location ideal.
5. We thought well about taking our laptops to the play, to engage the kids in something interesting, break the ice, and build a rapport. And it was definitely a good decision since, they were quite enthused with the gadgets.
6. Distributing toffees to the 150+ kids was a right decision which we had thought of before, since the enthusiasm they showed in sweltering hot conditions, was something worth bowing down to. The props and cameras, had been carefully checked and rechecked, and people stuck to the schedule despite having various other engagements, all in all the commitment of everyone involved was laudable.
7. After the play, we contacted the president again to confirm our meeting. When we finally met him, we realized that he was quite aware about the issue, and he tried to assure us that he will do something about it. He asked us to lay down our points in a letter and give it to him, which we later did.
This is the outcome of our weekend storming session.
Cheers!!
