Post Production
After piling up all the data we had with us for the presentation, I noticed that the first thing to do is to compress the data ( about 15 gigabytes ) to proceed further. One evening entirely went in the process and we noticed a need for some smart work in deciding the contents of the video to finish it before the deadline. So, we decided to meet in the insti that evening to discuss the script. I made a crude story line which eased the process as we needed just some additions to the video part. Though we had a day more for the deadline, we vowed not to take any chances for we were not sure of how to upload it over the campus net owing to transfer limits. Though we could do the video placing part by dinner, we had yet to overcome another problem, we expected would happen. We could get a microphone but, some unknown technical issue prevented us from doing the voice-over. With Varsha’s constant warning calls on one side (:P) and storming for a proper recording technique at one in the night, I went to a friend’s room ( Ramanuja) asking for an idea. I not only got the idea we needed, but also an awesome voiceover for the video…I owe you a treat Ram :).
The next couple of hours went in placing the clips at the correct positions and formatting the video for a wide screen aspect. As we had used multiple camera’s, issues regards the uniformity in resolution came up… but I had only one thing in mind.. to keep up my word to Harshita and Varsha, who supported me in innumerable ways during Spree, when we had to go get the clippings. Then a search for some cool music track … and Enya _/\_ was there to help us :). Crossfading took another ten minutes and our final draft was ready. It was about four in the morning and I gave the instructions for a render. The application measured the approximate time to complete the render as slightly over three hours and I badly needed a sleep then. Messaged Varsha about the render thing and went to bed praying God to see that there would be no power cut.
It was eight in the morning, when I tensely went to my friends room (where the render was on). We had to look for better compressing techniques.. and we needed an as near a lossless quality as possible, but with a huge shrink in the video size… took the help of some friends to sort the issue out and we were ready with the final upload file. The hide and seek internet on campus troubled us initially but we could do it owing to the limited but high upload bandwidth we had.
It was a night out I’ll remember, for its action packed tension, the innumerable IP messages, the aahs and the damns, but most importantly for the after-effects (non adobe lovers forgive the pun!), the completion was a high worth all the exhaustion!!
