A corporate (Big B) winter edition!

The Breaking news on TV says Amitabh Bachchan slams ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ because it shows India’s poverty and he goes on to say that “poverty is not just an Indian commodity”.

I have just one request to YoFa in this regard - Can we please have a Grassroutes trip arranged for Mr. Amitabh Bachchan so that he becomes more aware of India’s reality???
59% of Indian children are malnourished, worse than that of poorest of African region where its 20%. Less than 40% of the people are actually contributing to Indian economy, the rest are below povert line and are therefore easily ignored (hope I am not being optimistic on this stat!), Leprosy cases are once again on the rise and India might be a global threat, again ignored by the Government. So many suicides in different parts of the country and AB dares to call us self-sufficient. We have to realize that these numbers are made of PEOPLE.

Examples like,

  • a 2 year old boy weighing 4kg and still surviving,
  • a 7 year old kid fighting for his life because his family didnt have the money to bring him to the nearest hospital to cure his malaria,
  • a woman fighting against the entire world to get free treatment for her HIV+ transmitted to her by her husband who passed away due to AIDS,
  • an entire family of 5 diagonosed with TB, leaving them with no money to suvive, and
  • hearing from a father’s mouth about his son “hamein to yakeen hogaya ki woh ab nahi bachega” (we knew he would not survive…)

Isn’t this enough to prove that poverty is one of India’s major problem and should not be ignored?

I think next winter edition should be a Corporate edition.
